There were a total of 55 nurses that were eligible that included nurses from the day and night shift, but one declined to participate. Of the 54 nurses that were eligible 33 of them were asked for an interview, but the study did not state how they were selected for the interview. The data was obtained through interviews, direct observation of interactions in the ICU, during family conferences, and by observing informal conversations between the patients’ family members and health care providers, which enhanced the validity of the study.
